Just wondering what side effects you have ,what do you pay a month for the pills....

thought $30/month was expensive, thats after ins..

I am on 10MG of Lipitor.
My mother died of a massive heart attack about 2 years ago.
A couple months before that my wife made me get my #s checked.
At 28 I had 253 which is far over the limit for my age.
I went on a strick diet for 3 months and was tested again.
With all that work and exercise it only dropped to about 230.
After all this I think my ratio got worse. I went on the lowest dosage of Lipitor the 10MG and after a couple months to 140.
I have had no side effects in the 2 years that I have been on it.
The only thing that I can not eat is grapefruit. It is a small price to pay to try and beat my genetics. May God bless my mother a RN of over 30 years who never took care of herself. I am doing my best not to do that to my wife.

Sorry for the long response!

Ill have to check what exact drug my mom was taking but pretty much killed her liver in 8 months not a good trade for cholesterol?

They make you take a blood test after about a month.
Her Dr. should have been able to pick up issues by then!
I am sorry to hear about your mother, did she have any other health issues?

Wow sorry to hear that,,,

YEs please let me know what med that was....

Just took her shopping tonight and the drug was called Baykol or baycol? They took her off it and shortly there after took it off the market. She said here numbers were the best on that drug compared to the lipitor that she takes now.

Not sure if you have tried diet and exercise yet. I got my lazy butt in better shape this year and started eating better and dropped my cholesterol from 225 to 174. Most will have a VERY positive impact from diet and exercise. Some do not.

If you haven't tried diet and exercise... go for it. It can be free and you don't have to take any suspect pills AND the best part is you will feel like a million bucks.

I too am the result of bad genes and my chlorestrol was 250 no matter how hard I worked out and ate NO fat. I was on Zocor but after 2 years I developed BAD muscle break down and pain. Now Im on 20 mg Zetia and 40 mg provacol. It working great at 160 now with no side effects BUT I do take large intake of protein drinks and bars during the day to build up my muscles that the meds tend to break down..

Well, you boys may not believe this, but my wife and I both were on Lipitor. I have been taking it for several years now with no side effects until recently. I started having muscle cramps and muscle pain lately. Since I lift weights almost every day, I kinda thought that had something to do with it. After reading some stuff online about statin side effects. igot off it. After a couple of weeks everything went back to normal.

Here is the weird part, my wife has recently been complaining of how hard it is for her to remember things. Like people's names, addresses....etc. Then, she FORGOT to make our house payment! I knew that something was bad wrong at this point, as she has never done that. Then, about 2 weeks ago, I heard a doctor talking about statin drugs on the radio. He was talkinga bout the terrible things that have happened to people because of the statin drugs. Some people have been crippled by its use. Then he started talking about the wave of memry loss reports of statin drug users. I told my wife about it and she got off of it immediately. It has been about 2 weeks now and she is no longer having memory problems. The doctor on the radio said it is better to have high cholestrol than take a chance of a statin drug damaging your body permenantly. He also said that the majority of heart attack patients have normal cholesterol.

I will have to switch to something else. I advise all of you to get off it now, before soemthing bad starts happening.

I have ben fighting this exact dilema too Mark. I wonder long term if its worth th echance of perminant side effexts.. Then I look at my 10 year old Son and hope I make the right decision on being on this earth the longest I possibly can..

when i gt off work i will post some useful info on this subject however right now i dont have the time to post it all.

in the mean time uses Pubmed.com or webMD.com also about.com is a great source for relieble well reviewed info on drugs and natural alternatives.
