I learned some things today whiole climbing Hwy 2 in my GN....

Apparently...Turbo Buicks don't like altitude
Apparently...Turbo Buicks don't like altitude and high temps (220-237) at the same time
Apprarently....they also don't like the above while going uphill
Apparently....all the above together will possibly cause the buggers to vapor lock and leave you stranded on a lonely desert mountain hwy where there is no cell phone coverage...
hmmmmph...
Who knew?

Thank you Sytech for coming back 6 miles down the hill and rescuing me. Car was misfiring and chugging to a stall at low rpm. It would start back up, idel for a minute or two and then sputter to a stall again.

Before Sytech came back to help me, my buddy and I had tried a few things in a panic. Unplugged the MAF...no change...unplugged the TPS....no change....fixed a loose ground screw near the battery....no change...pulled my alky chip, turned the boost down to 13 lbs, turned off the alky, put the non-Alky TT chip in...of course...no change.....

Know what else I learned once I got home and reset my tune.

Apparently....if your spark plugs are loose in their sockets and the gap a little too wide (0.35 instead of 0.32)....it'll contribute to the above issues and really rob your power....huh.....
Who knew?
Sytech taught me this on the road side on Hwy 2 as we pulled, inspected, cleaned and regapped my plugs during his rescue mission. They were all kinda loose. I guess I was too gentle when I installed them 8 mos ago.

Once I got home, put my alky chip back in and turned the boost back up to 18 lbs...I took it our for a romp to be sure everything is back to normal....and the bonus is....the car feels a ton stronger than it did at 19lbs before all this happened.

Hey Spoolfool....I think I might now be able to break that 76 mph barrier in the 8th we ran into a couple weeks back while we set up my Alky tune. Butt dyno says so. I even beat up on a Porsche Cayman S to be sure. They are supposed to be mid 13 cars....I started from behind him at a light. He took off and I was passing him with ease before we hit 75mph:biggrin:

I'll hook up the laptop and do a few pulls in the next couple days and let you know what the direct Scan says.

Pappa Lou....I promose not to hurt the motor before bringing it to you for that work.

That's good you didn't melt it down. You might wana flush the coolant. Iv'e always gapped my plugs at 27-28.

I'm so glad you guys ended up being okay. I'm so sorry you missed lunch though :( We didn't know what to do. I wanted to give Ray the walkie talkie, but he said if you guys got it working you'd just head back probably and he didn't want to have to drive back up. Next time we'll do something more local. Thank you so much for going though, we appreciate you guys coming out. Will you be at the McDonalds meet next Saturday? Sorry again, it was nice to meet you though.

Sean

Yep Underboost 28 Gap Here, Thanks To Lou Tough Me.

I have them at 0.32 now....Once Lou has possession of the car in the next few days, if he tells me to gap 'em narrower, I'll get 'er done.

Nah, no apologies necessary. I had a great time until the trouble struck and I learned from it, so it's a win-win as they say.

You guys handled it well. The white mustang dude (sorry...I suck with names) stopped with me, gave me a bottled water, and then went for help. I didn't expect the whole caravan to come back for me.
But...it would have made me feel special if they all did.

I was kind of worried when I noticed the cell phone didn't work...I have AAA with the 200 mile tow.... but that only works if you can call them.

Luckily I didn't have to. I owe Sytech a huge thanks. He knew exactly what to do after I told him what had already been tried. I was glad to be able to buy him a nice lunch at the bottom of the hill when we got down there.

I'm looking forward to the next event and maybe will have the Camaro ready for that one.

Here's a pic of my GN carving the corners...:frown:

I'm the guy in the White Mustang - my name is Sean (I'm bad with names too for the record). Here is a link to the discussion on our forum about it - it has a list of names too for reference  Sorry again about the breakdown - I really did feel bad but I also knew I was useless to help you. Thankfully Ray was with us - thanks again Ray!

Ah....trickery...your screen name looks like a Camaro dudes name...yet you drive a Mustang. There might be a rule about that sort of thing....

You will forever be known as "white Mustang Dude" in my head now that I've made that association.

Thanks for your assistance, white Mustang Dude.:D

Yeah, my SN is left over from when I had a Black SS years ago. Can you request to have your name changed on this board? Thanks again for coming, I'm thrilled everyone who went was able to drive their vehicle home, even if it took a little while :)
