Are DOOR SKINS still available? Too much rust in Hawaii.

No.

Your better off finding a regular real for under a grand, taking the clean door you need an parting the rest of it out.

Thats what i did. I found one w/ no rust and a blown motor for $350. Parted it out, got my door and broke even.

I've been keeping my eye open for a cheap regal. Are there any other G bodies that have the same doors? I checked out a set from an olds.....he said it would fit.....did not look like it. See a descent amount of turbo buicks for sale in Hawaii but they all have crazy rust. I sold my Ttype thinking it had a lot of rust. Now that I am looking at other cars..... I realize mine had a solid body. Comming from Oklahoma.... I should have brought my cars to hawaii.....no mater what it cost..... oh well.

Doors are the same as Regals - I think thats it.

Rocker panels, floors, window trim, seals and sweeps, all swap also - pretty sure - you can check catalog numbers to verify some stuff. HTH

The problem in Hawaii isnt salt on the roads, its salt in the air carried by the winds from the pounding surf. Between that and the constantly high humidity,, cars are doomed here unless thay are tucked away in garages.

Clean parts cars can be found.... the cars are 20 years old now... parts are breaking and people cant fix them and are willing to give them away or sell them cheap.

Ryan, I'll keep an eye out for doors... culass and regal do interchange.

Thanks for looking out. I dont even have a turbo buick anymore. Its a catch 22. I find a car.....it has rusty doors....i find doors and the car is gone. If I get a car with rust ..... it sits around ...... i look for repair parts....... I give up sell the car and the cycle continues. I should take a trip to Cali and get a rust free car and ship it.

Hey, even mine has rust on the doors... if I could find skins I would replace them.

There are NOS skins out there, but they're not cheap!! Most want a mortage payment for them. A better alternative is to buy the lower 'patch panels' for the doors. That's what I did when I had my car restored and they came out better then new!! I think Postons, Auto Body Specalties(in CT) and Sherman Associates carres them. Around a $100 bucks each side and any autobody shop can do them. Good luck and let us know how they turn out.

My mortgage is $2400... and the last complete door shells I saw sold for $900/each... I would have bought them if I could find them now!

I have heard bodymen raise concerns that the metal used for the patch panels cannot be easily spot welded and must be mig welded as the metal is difficult to work with.

Patch panels are last resort and I would rather reskin the doors so there is not a seam for rust to start at.

My body guy fabbed the patch panels for my MCSS when I did that car 6 years ago. So far, its holding up, and the car is outside now. LOTS of labor to do, and labor isnt cheap here in Hawaii.

I guess it depends on the bodyman. Mine had no problem with the panels and even commented that they were actually easier to work with then he originally thought. He also rust proofed the inside of the panel with a product that the name now escapes me, but he said was a great product and MUCH better then the bare inside of the door from GM thats prone to rust anyways. As for the seam, it's covered up so I can't see a problem there, inside or out. As for your mortage, well i'm glad it's yours!!:D Damn!! LOL, seriously though to each his own. My doors took 20 years to rot the bottoms and again, that's with the bare unpainted panel from GM. If ya can afford the NOS skins, go for it but even if I could I probably wouldn't pay the currant asking prices. Have a great one.....

I'd hate to do patch panels on a car I intend to keep when my OCD says to reskin the doors....
