Are the speedpro hypereutectic pistons any good for a turbo build?The machine shop i goto suggested diamond forged pistons.I do plan on running a t49 or slightly bigger turbo.

Stay far away from hyperutectic pistons. They dont play well with detonation.

There are a few guys I know using them. So far one is putting 30# on them and they are holding up.

Just know how to tune your car and it won't be an issue.

I've used them without problems before.Haven't had one break yet,so far.

I ran a set of them in my last engine. Never had any problems with them and the engine did see some detonation. The hypereutectic pistons are still a cast piston, so be careful if detonation is common with your set-up.

If you want Hypers, I have a good used set of Keith Black, +0.030--also 210/205 Reed-club cam, if you want flat-tappet...

And forged pistons do?

Regaurdless of what you use (hyper/forged) you will want to tune for ZERO detonation. Detonation will kill any piston.

im using those exact pistons, and have no problems.. Just make sure your tune is on...

I've got hypers in my engine and I'm not worried about it. Keep in mind the factory piston (you know, the one that's gone 10's) was cast. IMO unless you're trying to go fast (I personally would say 10's) it just gives you less room for error in your tune. Just my .02

I am running hypers and have no problems. :cool:
I wonder if the "Hyper material" has changed over the years and are now better than 5-10 years ago.

We all know that;
The more power, the less forgiving KR is.
At 600HP/Forged, you may get away with 5 deg KR (just calling out some numbers), while at 600hp/hypers, you may only get away with 2 deg KR.

Had my share of KR during the early tuning process, but, I will never see the power level some are at.

It always comes down to;
"How fast can you afford to go?" :eek:

Got Speed pro hypers in my 4.1.
If i havent blown them up by now, then I never will.
Alot of guys running fast w/ the stock cast piston.

Its really personal preference. but they will hold up to what ever you can dish out.
My two points for a TR engine rebuild:
proper clearances
and
Balancing.

and as other said for the tuning/driving:
"No detonation."

I put speed-pro hypers in my .30 over 4.1 3-4 k. miles ago .Over revved ,poor
tunes,hi boost.Still waiting for it to blow up.
