are these cars fast?

I didn't know people raced buicks!My aunt gave me a 1987 regal t-type,but the transmission is broken. My brother keeps making fun of the car it's getting annoying.Is my car as fast as a del sol cuz I'd love to beat him with it.He goes to the race track with his friends and I'd luv to embarass him in front of them!Maybe it would shut him up.

Del Sol?

I don't know exactly just how slow a Del Sol is, cuz I've only seen
them on "Buy Here, Pay Here" sleazoid car lots, or being driven by
bearded female mutants.

The Regal has more class in its glovebox than an entire Del Sol.

His del sol is a cute little car,but the sound it makes is so annoying,ack.I think it could fit in the regals glovebox too,lol.I don't know how fast it is,but when I raced him with my eclipse I was only a few feet behind him.

If it's the Turbo T, fix the tranny and lay the smack down on him. The only caveat is you need to learn how to drive the car and get the turbo spooling before you launch.
A STOCK TR with a thrasher chip sould be in the 13's. Read gnttype.org and this site. Lots of 13, 12, 11, 10 and even 9 second cars here.

I'm pretty sure it's the V6 turbo,since it says it all over the car.I know that you rev the engine and dump the clutch on a stickshift car.How would you do it with an automatic?Do a breakstand?How much would one of those chip things cost?I asked my brother how fast his car is and he said it goes 16 something at the race track.

With a SLOW Turbo Regal, you'll be back in the pits having a cold one before he'll know what happened

Recommend you race him at the track, where EVERYONE can see, AND where its a bit more safe....

After you go faster than your bro's Del Sol, and, If the car is not to your liking, this is a good place to sell it. If you like it, this is a good place to ask questions and learn. The Turbo Regal is still the world's fastest accelerating sedan....

Thanks for the link Joe,though most of it may as well have been written in French to me,lol.It did clear up my question about launching the car.Scan tool?TPS?How much retard?What the **** does that mean.I will most definetly be racing it on radial tires since I can't see spending the money on racing tires.

A scan tool is a small device that reads the information going to your computer. It monitors engine sensors like the knock sensor(vital in order to protect the engine from damage when racing), TPS=throttle position sensor, etc.... how fast these cars go depends an awful lot on how well they are kept in tune and sensors being set to proper specs. When the knock sensor hears damaging knock for low octane fuel or too much boost or even not enough fuel, it backs the ignition timing down to try to eliminate the knock. No knock + good fuel and high boost= fast times. I remember having to learn all about these cars..... it brings back some frustrating memories. LOL!

Not sure if you're T-Type has been modified at all, probably not if your aunt owned it. One of the first things that should be done to any TR (Turbo Regal) is a new fuel pump and a "Hotwire" kit. Both these items are available from any of the good vendors we all deal with. Try www.cottonsperformance.com and talk to Jack, he is a great guy and is able to tell you just about anything you need to know. He won't steer you wrong. He also sells the scan tools....best bet is the Scanmaster.

As for your trans troubles, try to get in contact with Bruce (aka "WE4") in the "Transmission Talk" section of this board. He is the guru when it comes to the 200R4 transmissions in our cars.

If at all possible, try to avoid local garages that have no idea how to work on a TR. The history from some of the members of this board has proven that *most* garage mechanics don't know squat about these cars. If you have troubles with your car, any of the board members here can help you find the problem, and the solution.

Get that trans fixed and go smoke that del sol in front of your brothers friends. Sweet justice!

If his car runs 16's, you can beat hime with a bad tranny at 1/2 throttle. Do the spring cleaning on gnttype.org to familiarize yourself with the car, get the tranny fixed and have some fun.
