I've been in the guards for 4 yrs now as a medic and we do not train
medics are always doing crap work, urinalisys (spelling) and height weight checks, annual medical screenings etc etc
for the entire company
and if we aren't doing that we are doing inventory on all the medical supplies
supplies are missing because people steal , we go to drill 1 month and have new stuff next month we drill stuff is missing and its not our medics stealing-fulltime national guard people have the keys to our supply room
the supply sergeant is a shady prick--I remember getting ripped off when he issued my gear to me--it was only 1 item but I remember he said you don't need it but had me sign for it(didn't realize it at the time)
we get 0 time to train when out in the field medics are just there as support/medical coverage so the range personel will allow us to occupy the range
so the tankers, morter's,scouts etc etc can shoot all there guns
but get this I was trained as a medic on my drill weekends and it was not good training-I forgot most of what was taught
and I don't have an aid bag to take with me to the field (bags were stolen)
so when I go out as a medic to support a range I have to take medical gear like bandages and splints -stuffed in my own personal back pack
but remember my crappy training I don't feel confident that I could even save anyone
wish I never signed up
and now I might end up getting deployed to iraq
not only do I not have enough training as a medic
was I trained well enough to be a combat soldier to do convoy escort protection HELL NO
I was in the airforce for 3 months (long story ,bitch problems)back in 1987 no infantry training there
only thing going for me is my target shooting hobby I qualify expert everytime with both .223 and 9mm
really pisses me off that we don't learn a da,mn thing at drill weekends or at our 2 weeks annual training
now my life is just starting to be enjoyable-wife kids, job TTA
off to war to die thats just great
