Hi, Im sure ive seen info on the Cold air kit, with the canister for the cone air filter to sit in. Is this helping the car, or hurting? Its made like the air filter, and just slides over it, starting to get warm here, and i wanted to know if it would help in the heat?

I think the general opinion these days is that the canister is actually doing more harm than good by surrounding the filter like that. An actual cold air kit that locates the air filter farther away from the heat of the engine bay is a better bet.

i would say the cannister is helping it temperature wise... my car's IAT was always lower when i had the cannister on the air filter rather than off. hth

OK, anyone know where you get those kind that pt the filter outside the engine bay? How much?

I agree 100% with BlackMetal, the canister actually hurts airflow. This one and the Bell One are junk in my book. Like suggested get one that has an open filter and gets its air from outside the Engine Area, your choice to which one. Gene PS. I ran both of my mentioned inclosed filter asys.

they def hurt the performance .. been there and done it :p

When i got this car, it had one on it, I went to the 4inch maf from FT and it was choking it even worse so I got rid of it.

Do all cold air kits with open element make noise when you get off the throttle quickly?

Thanks
Jack

Problem solve, i made my own cold air kit out of the pipes left over from the intercooler kit, they are 3inch, and i located the filter, in front of the driver side tire, you can really hear the turbo waste gate now:eek:. Anyone know how this will help my car perform? Any way no more hot air from engine bay! It was simple to make, took a pipe with a elbow, hooked it to the end of the MAF, cut a 3inch hole to stick it thru, relocated the charcole canister, and the little dome, and i was done.

Really loud, compared to being under the hood. I scared some kid today when i let off the gas. It's really cool to hear, i like it!

I have an ATR on mine and was wonder if you could just simply leave it but remove the canister and let the breather stay in place?

If so, how do you remove it? Will I have to remove those two line it's under?

Just remove the cover. I take one clamp off the turbo, and one off the filter, then slide it out, the filter will be in the open.

Also keep in mind that the 14" K&N filter that came with the cold air and ram air kits was junk.

It was prone to collapse and had a really bad throat venturi. The 9" K&N has a much better design and flows more air in real world situations (vs. "in theory").

I first removed the scoop and hose and noticed no loss in performance. Then I about doubled the size of the canister opening and noticed a slight increase in performance, then removed the canister and replaced the 14" K&N with a 6.5" filter with a proper venturi and this was the fastest.

So basically, I sold off my ATR intake stuff nearly 10 years ago and haven't regretted it for a second.
