ATR Header crack...

another somthing to watch out for....

http://www.geocities.com/slow85t/atr.htm

That is the crack on the #2 primary where it meets the body of the header. The headers have 3K miles on them and I have heard this leak from about 1K miles. Hopefully it wont crack again when its welded today....

I dont know if it hurt performance any, but it sure explains why I couldnt spool it at the line in palmdale (high elevation)

That's pretty amazing that they have a defect in their product. I've never had any of their headers myself, but I've heard nothing but praise about them. Have you called them about it? They may be willing to pay for the repair(depending on who does it) or at least give you a discount on your next purchase. Who knows, they may even be willing to refund some cash. I got a Houston-style DP from a vendor once. I thought the welds were a little bit sloppy(bead was kind of concaved in parts from lack of material), so I took it to a guy here locally to have it redone before I installed it. He does most of the welding for the private aircraft around here so I knew it would be good. Afterall, there are no service stations or roadside assistance in the sky. He did a topnotch job and didn't even charge me extra for doing the testpipe and taking out a dent at the rear of the DP that it got during shipping(lousy UPS). I now take all my welding work to him(not that I have that much) since I don't yet own a welder, and the result is always the same.

Mine did the same thing at the same place, I just called ATR and they said to send it back and they would take care of it. Their turn around time was good and the header looked terrific when I got it back. I was pleased with the way they took care of me.

I just had it welded..... $35 its not as pretty as ATR would do, but its sealed now

I just got my ATR SS Hush DS header off. My crack is at the #2 primary seam between the head and collector. It cracked along the seam about 1/2 way around and then proceeded to turn and start cracking the pipe at a 90 degree angle to the seam for about an inch.

The crossover pipe joint below the oil pan is leaking too. Since the crossover came out of the car without being seperated at that joint, I'm just going to have it welded all the way around.

Still, not bad for being 13 years old.

I assume these are 304 stainless?
