audible knock alarms

have a knock gauge in my gn but was wondering if i also need an audible alarm. any suggestions?

I wouldn't say you need one. I find that I like the litttle extra security though. Its just one more thing to make sure I'm paying attention. Cheap insurance if you will.

IMO I would highly recommend them..... You have enough to pay attention to with: Traffic, Boost, Fuel, EGT..... its just plain worth it

There were instructions on how to build your own audible knock detector in a past Turbo buick Newsletter dated 1983. It involves using commonly available parts from radio shack or equivalent. It states you can build it for under twenty bucks. i'll try to post it for ya if i can figure out how to (not computer savvy).

Just to let you guys know, I have not actually attempted to build one of these for my self as of yet, but I just thought I would share it with fellow members as it seems easy to build and cheap as well.

Instructions

go to gnttype.org and the instructions on how to build one are in the tech archives. I believe the audible knock detector was first developed by Larry Fisher a looooong time ago..

The Knock detector article is from an old turbobuick newsletter and the author and maker of This Particular detector is a Fred Haumesser. Not saying it is unlike the Larry Fisher one, but from what I can see it contains far fewer parts in the parts list and I would think it would be far easier to build for the novice electronics DIY'er. He claims to have used it for several years w/o any problems. Again I have not built one by either person's instructions so i can't attest to who's is the better design, but my guess would be the one on GNTTYPE.org seeing it looks a little more involved/challenging.
