Anyone ever use one of these or something similar? They were in my motor when I got it back from the builder. We had trouble firing the engine, but that ended up being due to too much fuel. The car never did start with these so I'd think they are still good. Looking for opinions/experiences.

When the Splitfire spark plugs were popular, the shop I worked at tested them against conventional spark plugs. But the test was only performed on one engine. The car did slow down about a tenth in the quarter mile. There were customers who reported improvements though.

Here I go on to a rabbit trail for a few seconds. Plasma ignition may be the best hope for improvements in combustion outside of addressing the combustion chamber (which includes the piston top in my thinking) and its support systems (intake port, exhaust port). If a plasma ignition system reduced the timing needed to make best power, that would be a measurable improvement. If it also reduced the tendency to detonate or the magnitude of detonation was reduced, those would be further improvements. I am looking forward to testing a plasma ignition system down the road. Sorry this is more theoretical than practical.

Do you have GN1 aluminum heads? The reach on those plugs is too long for stock 8445 heads.

Yes I do have GN1's. Just put in Autolite 103's last night since I knew the car should run well on those. I have a higher compression ratio and am buring e85. Just interested in seeing if anyone's ever used these and if they're worth a shot next spring. I believe the theory is that they fight off detonation better.

I had never heard of them until now. But they are a racing plug so it would be nice to know how well they would perform in a street driven car.

Since you already have them take 15 minutes and install them and let us know how they run. They are not a cheap plug Advance auto parts sells them for $6.09 per plug with a 2 year warranty.

Autolite 103 plugs are good, i have never had a problem with them.

Well it just started snowing in Minneapolis. Not going to stick, but a sure sign winter is not too far away. I'll give the X plugs a shot next summer after the car is broken in and has a decent tune on it.
