I have a AVC Gnx dash in my car, it was in the car when I bought it. The problem I started having is the odometer only works about 25% of the time. The speedo works fine all the time and all the other gauges work fine also. Doesn't the speedo cable run the speedometer and the odometer? If so I don't understand why the speedo works fine all the time and the odometer only works sometimes.

Send it out for a rebuild.

My AVC dash came with VDO instruments.....since I live in Canada the speed limits are in Kilometers.......so, I sent my speedometer down to get recalibrated from MPH to KPH at North Hollywood Speedometer and Clock Co. in Hollywood CA...Tel #818-761-5136. It came back and looks and works like new!
They are a large VDO dealer / repair house and do great work.....their prices are very reasonable too.

First of all post some pics.

Secondly I have spoken with them and they know their shinizzer! They can do a wide variety of stuff. One day I will have them do my gauges.

Mine also has the VDO gauges. So what you are saying is the problem lies inside the cluster itself? Also I found the paperwork that came with the car on the AVC cluster and the phone number on there is no good. Is the company no longer around?

Yup, you'll need to remove your speedometer from the housing and send it out to be repaired. To do this, you'll need to remove the drivers side dash that houses the assy, and then remove the instument panel housing to be able to loosen & remove the bracket that holds the speedo into the mounting panel. Lots of info available on how to do this.....I'm sure that someone can chime in and send you a link. If you have a fax number that you could PM me, I still have the original AVC installation intructions....I can send you these via fax....when you see these, it will make sense.
