Anyone using one of these? There used to be one made specifically for our cars. Just wondering if they are as much work to put in as the Hurst Quarterstick?

Take a look at the link in my sig. In there you can check out my Grand National photo album and see my Street Stick.

And no, they're no longer available. Mine's been in there since about late 87.

About the only alternative would be the B&M Pro Stick or Hurst Quarter Stick.

Was it a true bolt-in Dave, except for the mods needed to the console? Found one for sale but not sure if it is worth what the person is asking.

True bolt in, well, sorta. You have to cut a big hole in the stock console cover because the shifter cover fastens to it. There's some wiring that needs to be done so you can retain back up lights and neutral safety.

And one other mod I needed to do. The stock linkeage that runs up to the steering column (causing the collar to rotate when shifting) wont hook to the lever that comes with the shifter that attaches to the tranny.
So what I did was attache the "shifter" lever to the tranny, and then on the same shaft, I attached the stock lever and bolted the two together. To make sure nothing "shifted positions between the two stacked levers" I had a shop put a tiny little weld bead (just a spot) between the two levers so they are fastened together.

You need the in car column shifting function to be retained so the ECM knows when you're in P/N or in gear.

I put in an aftermarket shifter and didn't worry about the column position rod. It does tell the ECM when it is park or neutral (only) but that only effects idle (in park or neutral).

Side benefit: When I park the car I manually turn the column all the way clockwise. If some one tries to start the car, even with the key, it won't let the key turn unless you manully turn the collar back counter clockwise. Just a little extra security feature;)

Actually there are other things that it affects. Without getting into the details, there's a lot of Thrasher owners (and others) that would be without one important feature if the P/N, ingear function wasn't working.

And another board member JUST discovered why he couldn't get his EGR to function properly (getting ready for a CA smog test). The EGR wont function when the ECM can't see that the car has been shifted out of P/N.

It's awfly important for that function to be operating!!!! Probably some other ECM functions I've forgotten.

But those are a couple of important ones.

Huh....interesting...When I posted this same question a while back, the general consensus was it didn't effect much. Either way, I always turn mine to the drive position after starting anyway..
