What color is the smoke, black or white?
Maybe a bad EGR, cracked header, too high fuel pressure, blown turbo seals. Lay off the boost till you get it fixed.

i hve a adjustable waste gate on the car i turned it way back and it still knocks real bad the color of the smoke is like a greyish color i thought maybe the mas air was bad i change that there is no exhaust leaks i fixed all of those and i allways run 93 octane. one question i do have is how do u tell what size turbo u have on the car......rob

man yo really need a scan tool so you can give us some #'s like

it sounds like its leaning out from 1/2 throttle on bu hard to say if its leaning out or just detinating on oil that could be resting in the bottom of the intake and getting picked up as rpms increase.
them hotair motors are tougher than people think ....thank god for steel shim head gaskets ..
another thing is to pull your valve covers an make sure all the valves are opening since if you have a cam thats going away it will cause more detination as it gets worse.

Could be the cam sensor is out of adjustment (too advanced)

About rotating the crank 25° past TDC...cut a piece of masking tape just a teensy bit longer than 1-7/16" long. Put the right edge on the timing mark, the left edge will be 25° after TDC!
