Am I missing something? Does the difference between a manual and an auto mean 3 carlengths?

I raced a Mustang GT, the guy said he was stock but he used to have nitrous. Four times. The first three, two from a stop and one from a roll, he edged me out by half a carlength, all of a sudden when he shifted, probably 3-4. The fourth, they gave me enough time to brake boost from a stop and I had them by a good length off the line then he did his magic shift and flew by. When I raced a stock auto GT from a roll, I had several lengths. Now, this guy could shift, but...

I was on 12psi of boost. I'll go back with 18 in a little bit.

By the way, they asked me how much I paid for my turbo ;)

and I raced a 98 cobra vert too, but screwed up the launch and left black marks through the intersection.

5 spd Mustangs are usually quicker than autos. But, you shouldn't have trouble with either if they were near stock.

I can't think of any reason to run 12#. That is lower than stock isn't it?

I would agree, he sprayed you. No magic shift, get your boost back up man! "I used to run Nos" and then beating you on a "magic shift" dont add up.

Wastegate is stuck - can't adjust it. I'll get it fixed hopefully this weekend. We had it at 20# with 100 octane but whats a good boost level for the 91 crap we have in AZ?

I was really surprised when I didn't start pulling him, and was even more suprised when he started pulling me, since a stock GT could only wish for a 13, or so I've heard.

Well, the 5-speeds start out about 50lbs lighter and about 5% less driveline loss.
So say he has a few bolt-ons and is aroun 250hp at the crank. Well the auto would be putting around 200hp to the ground while the manual is putting around 213. So The manual is going to be around .15 sec faster in the 1/4 if the driver knows what he is doing. Then you can easily adjust your shift points in a Manual if the bolt-ons extend your RPM band where the aut can sometimes muff this effect.
Simply stated the 5-speeds are normally faster at the track, until you get into really fast ones that no human can possibly shift fast enough.

Sounds like to me he could have had one of the Sneaky pete systems that are only good for atmost 50hp and not really noticable to the eye. He probably waited until he knew he was going to lose, then shifted and hit the NOS to make sure he would win.

You got sprayed. No chance he would have walked you like that on the 3-4 shift if he wasn't on the juice. Ask to look around his car next time. The trunk, obviously is a good place to start. There are so many ways to hide a system, sometimes ya' just can't tell! I hollowed out a toolbox and put it over my bottle in the trunk. Nobody ever questioned me about it! You may be able to find the stainless steel lines under the car that go from the bottle to the solenoids, but if he's clever, the only way to tell is to smell the nitrous burning when you race him. It stinks like rotten eggs! The stench is from the sulfer they put in the nitrous to make it commercially available(otherwise kids would be huffing the stuff). Hope you WAX HIS A$$ when you see him next! Good luck!

P.S. It probably wasn't a sneaky pete kit, that one is only good for about 35 or 40 HP, and MAYBE a tenth in the quarter.

well..umm...I am a dumbass.

I didn't even look under his hood. He could have had a blower for all I know. They looked under my hood though, and didn't believe me when I said that similar setups put 400hp to the wheels with just changing the boost. I told 'em that with my current boost levels I should have around 250 to the wheels.

Just about anytime a Mustang driver gets the urge to race around here you can bet your ass he has a power adder. I won't even consider running one unless he at least has nitrous. Just a waste of good gas.

Give the Mustang some credit. The person who started this thread stated that he was only running 12psi. My GN ran low 14s on 14psi (with a best of 13.8). The Mustang in my sig ran 14.4 bone stock with me lifting my foot at the end to avoid a breakout.

"boostin" didn't say what year Mustang it was. So if it was a new one, which are capable of breaking into the 13s, then I don't see why he'd need nitrous to beat a turbo Regal running 12psi.

One more thing to consider is this: he said he pulled him on the 3-4 shift. That means that this is in the very high end of the quarter-mile. And we all know that the Turbo Regal's strength is in the low & mid-range. Especially if the valve springs haven't been replaced in a while.

Well it is a pretty low mileage car (38k) but I see your point. However we have a TA-49, a chip, and I think injectors.

Yeah it was a new one but like I said, I have been able to smoke them before.

Let him know there is a V6 Trans Am that wants to run him. Then well see what hes got.
Sorry I must have missed you at the mcdonalds I came by but it was like 7:15 or so. Well try to meet at the trader joes on speedway this friday.

Hunter

I left just before that.

If I show up this Friday it'll be in my Stang so I can't race anything domestic - to win, that is.

That trader joes is at speedway and wilmot right?

I might get another TR to show up.

definitely can't be running 12 psi on a GN...no lower than 15 lbs!!!:D try running an alky setup with a race chip and 22-23 lbs...i would bet he would lose by 10 car lengths then...

Cool sounds good man. Yeah the one on wilmont and speedway. As long as no one who you bring does any burnouts or reaving in the parking lot everyone is welcome. We are trying to become legal there:)

On 91 octane with no scan tool dont run more than 14psi. If the car has a cat one of the first things you should do is get a test pipe.

Hunter

I'll have to be careful with my Mustang, its pretty loud. The people I might bring are in their 30s/40s so I'm the only one into john force style burnouts ;)

Blackbuick

I'm going to talk to my dad and convince him he needs to buy some computer equipment for the Buick. And an alchy kit.

If your old man buys that stuff just so you can go faster you have the coolest dad on the planet. I know what mine would have said:D

Well, he doesn't really like me street racing. But...he thinks that our Buick is the baddest thing on the road. He keeps talking about "breathing on it". well, time to step up to the plate...
