Is there a way to bench test the fan delay relays?

believe it or not i just shake them:eek: ....if they sound like a baby rattle toss it......
if no sound,you can take it apart (with 4 small flat head screw drivers) and inspect the big contacts on the relay,clean if nessary....and check for corrosion,etc on the other side of the board....

you can test on car;

unplug the three way plug on ac line under alt. ground the green/yellow wire (with the cars ign on engine off),turn engine off (leave wire grounded) the fan should stay running (approx 10 min)

If it's holding down your magazine collection under your socks in your dresser, it's working just fine. ;)

But seriously you need the following bench connections:

Pin A C1 the ground trigger that activates the unit for delay, wire you can hook to battery ground by hand or via a switch.

Pin B C1 Output to cooling fan, use a good high current load resistor 5-10A or a headlight low beam bulb would probably work okay or a car fan.

Pin C C1 +12 hot at all times from the fusible link, it's the relays power that runs the load, thick wire to your test battery.

Pin A C2 +12 switched by IGN hot in run bulb test or start. A switch to your power supply should work.

Pin B C2 +12 at all times from the power brake fuse, test battery connection also via a separate wire.

Pin C C2 Ground of test battery.

Easier to check on the car, but we already know it's gonna fail if it tests good anyways :(
