Hello there,
My name is Chris. I am a Resource Officer in Chicopee, MA, at a middle school. At my school of almost 1,000, I have a special little girl named Marissa. Marissa just turned 13 years old and has a severe seizure disorder. This disorder has affected many areas of her life, as her seizures are severe and often come without warning. It is because of this, that she rarely leaves the house, except to go to school. She fears the embarrassment of having a seizure in front of others. A benefit has been set up for March 19, 2010 from 6:30-midnight at the Castle of Knights in Chicopee, MA. The money raised will be used to purchase a seizure alert dog for Marissa. The cost of the dog is approximately $15,000. Tickets are only $20. While I realize that most of the TB community isn't located near Western MA, I also know that there are those who have or know children who are sick. There is nothing worse than the feeling of helplessness when a child is sick, and you can do little to help. In this case, the dog is trained to detect changes in body chemistry before she has a seizure so steps can be taken to prevent one before it happens. I will list a website that has much more information on Marissa's story, but believe me when I tell you that this girl is very special to me, and is deserving of this dog so that she can attempt to have the independence every young girl dreams of having. For those who can't attend, but still would like to contribute, donations can be sent to Marissa Cox Benefit P.O. Box 207 Chicopee, MA 01021...the website you can visit is located at www.epstorm.blogspot.com/2009/12/1-year-old-massachusetts-girl-needs.html....i know its a long website, but definitely worth visiting...thanks in advance.
Chris

feel free to pm me for more info. I'll be at the cottons winter party for those who are going this sat the 20th if that's easier. thanks again. chris

Hey, I'll be at Cotton's Saturday. My step daughter has seizures. I'll donate $20 for Marissa. I've seen some programs about seizure dogs, they are pretty special. Seizure disorders are not fun, tough for a teen, especially a girl. Maybe Jack and put a jar out for donations....

thank you very much Pronto...they definitely aren't fun especially at that age...i appreciate it and I know Marissa and her family will appreciate it...Jack said he would set up some kind of collection "box" at the door for those willing to donate to such a great cause..thanks again.

just came from Cotton's Winter Party...talk about class acts everywhere...this crew raised $510 for a little girl they didn't even know...i'm still soaking it in...thanks Jack, Lorrie, everyone else, most of whom i've never met, and especially Taylor...she did all the strong-arming so i didn't have to...thanks again to all who attended..I know Marissa and her family appreciate it very much

Very cool. Ya, Taylor stole the show. She's quite a little salesgirl. Nice show of compassion from the guys and gals for Marissa at the Bash. OK all you other board members, how about pitching in a few bucks too!

the number has surpassed $550 as of right now, thanks to the generosity of many TB owners and Sam Colalillo, who donated a one piece front air dam for the raffle..can't thank you guys enough...there's still time...the benefit is March 19, and the need is still there....feel free to pm me, call me, email me, post up here..whatever it takes..u guys are great:)

just an update...the benefit went awesome, and thanks to a bunch of great friends and even more great people I didn't even know and who didn't know Marissa, the night of the benefit we raised almost $11K....the total was close to $20K....today she met Abby, her service dog, and are in the process of training together...thanks again to those in the TB community who reached out and helped make this a success...you know who you are

That's great news! Hope her life becomes alittle easier with the service dog's help.
