My friend just got a new Duramax Chevy. He wants to make it fast, so what are the best mods and from who?? He was talking about 5" exhaust, cold intake, and maybe a Programmer. Thanks for any help. Frank

His best bet for making it go fast is to hook it to the bumper of a Dodge :D I hate to say it, but you can't beat a Cummins.

The TST box appears to be the bomb when it comes to the Duuramax. This is the same box all of the guys use. Fiscus ran one on his truck too before he went to a 04. I dont think Cal picked up much going to the big exhaust.

Looking to get rid of your bumpers or something?

The discrete '97 white standard cab 4X4 long bed Dodge with the roll cage inside it's cab is ready for most anyone. It only makes a tick over 1500' lb's of torque & 900HP at the rear tires before the 2 stages of happy gas come in :D The only bumpers we're loosin', are the rear ones we're draggin'. Ted you're my favorite plumber :)

Frank,

Have him call Mark at DPP-Diesel performance parts.

I have a few bombs on my new Dodge that I bought from them and they definitely know their stuff. TST programmer is probably one of the best. He probably will not need a 5' exhaust, 4' exhaust should be plenty up to 500-600hp. Give DPP a call, they will lead him in the right direction.

Looks like you need to find a way to sneak that truck into BG next year as a Buick. I/we would sure love to see it run. How about the fastest tow vehicle exhibition?? Or who can blow the most black smoke?? That thing must look like it runs on charcoal when you are boosting it.

It depends on how fast he wants to go. I bought a 90 hp Edge Juice box off of a trade in and installed an air filter then swiss cheesed the air box. It picked up from 10.50 to 9.20's in the 1/8th at around 73mph. I have raced a few with the 125hp predator and another with the 125hp Edge but it was so close I don't know if that other 35hp is making it through the tranny. The TST box is supposed to be the best as well as the new Edge Juice with attitude moniter. These are adjustable on the fly for towing.

If he wants to make more than 90-125 over stock then he's gonna need a transmission. Once the allison is modified you can go low 13's and high 12's in a crew cab truck with just power boxes. There is a guy in Reynolds GA that races in the diesel classes and he has run 12.80's with 2 boxes stacked together. You can buy a 225 quad race box to plug in under the hood and program another 125 in the diagnostic port. But you still need a tranny and probably a converter. A few guys are using N2O or propane to run 11's.

Anything over a 4 inch exhaust is just for looks unless you can replace the downpipe at the turbo. Since it's the new LLY motor there may not be a lot of boxes available yet.

www.thedieselpage.com is a good place for info.

If it's a new truck with the LLY motor, don't put an exhaust on it with the stock ecm. It will set a soft EGR code. I don't know of too many boxes available yet for the LLY. I have a 140hp prototype programmer from SuperChips that works pretty well. TST is supposed to release their box next month.

If it's an older Duramax, my old truck responded well stacking the TST competition box with the SuperChips programmer
