I thought about the Mach 1, too, but in the latest issue of Car Craft, they wouldn't even post times for it from their drag strip outing (Instead they relied on a Motor Trend's test of 13.8 - and those guys are famous for "correcting" ET's).

I'm guessing it didn't get out of the 14's. I'm sure Bob Cosby could wring 12's out of one eventually, but not "stock". An SRT-4 neon will do that for $10K less.

Yeah but the ZO6 Vette sells for a little over $50K and Tim wants something under $40K.........

that is true the new ones go for 50k,but a LOW mile zo6 can be had for 40k and under.i have seen 2002 zo6's going for 40k.go for the ZO6,the best sports car for the dollar bar none!!

If you wish you asked the question back in 87 why don't you just buy a really low mile GN right now and save some money. My friend is selling his 87 GN with 316 miles.

If you want new go with the 03 Cobra.

Yeah, If I bought a low mile GN I probably wouldn't drive it for fear of putting miles on it. But it would be nice to have a like new one though.

I no what you mean to a point. I wouldn't drive it either. But if you are willing to spend $40K why not spend mid 20's and drive the car. Even if you put 50K miles on it you can still get money back on the car. These cars hold their value so much. You buy the 03 Cobra and you lose $5K the minute your drive it off the lot and the more miles you put on it the less it is worth.

But like I said, if going for new I would do the 03 Cobra. I heard they are real bad cars. May even want to consider the Ford Lightning as well.

Are the 9 second o3 Cobra's that have just "Bolt On's"
Running with a blast of nitrous to acheive that?
I just have a hard time beleiving they run 9's without a shot.

Well I am looking at the June edition of MM and FF and it says Nitrous Pete squared off with Jim D' Amore, and Pete ran a best of 10.546@133.78 on the bottle.

Why do you have to be anything? Buy whoever has the best product at the time. Don't buy an inferior GM product because you own another GM car. Thats DUMB.

Yeah, but he didn't say he wanted a sports car. He wants a drag car. Big difference. To me it's just wrong to buy a Z06 and then beat the hell out of it on the drag strip. It's built to be an ultimate handling car and it's proven that in numerous tests. That's the goal of the Cobra, too, otherwise why would they spend the money to put IRS on it? I say go for the Mach 1. And that b.s. about not letting you test drive a Cobra without agreeing to buy one is just ridiculous. If I heard that, I would walk.

I agree you should spend your money on whatever fits your needs, regardless of brand. If a particular company isn't building a car that meets your needs, they don't deserve your money. Buying anything because it wears a certain logo just makes you a corporate slave.

number one i was just kidding about the GM thing,look at the smiley faces.and tta89 if you think the zo6 is the inferior car you have got to be on crack.that statement was pure dumb.fact is the zo6 can handle and tear up the quarter mile.the cobra is a great car but it cant compare to the zo6 as a all around performer.

I was told by a friend that Nitrous Pete ran a new PB of 9.53 at St. Louis not too long ago. I'm not sure just how accurate that is.
