Best place to install temp sender

I am currently in the process of installing a VDO temperature gauge and temp sensor and was wondering what is the the best place to install the temperature sensor?

you can put it where the stock idiot light switch is- in the water crossover on the front of the engine- but then you lose the idiot light.
if you want to keep the light (and you do want to keep the light..), then there is another boss that is undrilled on the top of the same water crossover to the driver's side of the thermostat housing, right next to the stock temp sensor.
