I am installing a boost gauge on my 85 GN and was wondering where the best place to tie in under the hood would be. I was thinking about just putting a "T" in the line that runs to the waste gate from the turbo. Is that a good place? If not please let me know where I should put the "T".

Boost gauge Tee in point

I Teed in to the line just before the fuel pressure regulator. There is another option. If you have a 1/8" NPT fitting you can go direct into the intake manifold. There is a 1/8" plug on the DS at the front facing forward just below the fuel rail input.

Can anyone take some pics and show me where you guys tied in? Also if I decide to use the fitting on the intake where can I get a 1/8 NPT fitting?

Dont have a pic, but there is the boost sensor on the pass fender. It is round and about the size of a half dollar, has 1 vac line and a 2 wire conn. I just followed that vac line to the firewall and teed in there.

I was looking at the vacum diagrams and was wondering if I could just tie in to the existing line that runs to the boost gauge thats already in the car?

the fitting should have come with the gauge. If not just go to a hardware store of auto parts store and get a 1/8 compression fitting with a 1-8th npt male end on it.

Mine is a digital dash so i dont know what you have. But you could tap into it and it should work for boost psi but dont know about vac. Tap into it and check it, it will only take a minute.

Tie into the intake, that way you know how much boost your running right at the cylinder. This would be the best place I think. Use the small threaded hole on the front of the intake that has a plug in it, just as the guys mentioned above.

Hope this helps
Matt

yeah any auto parts that sells gauges should have the fitting, vdo and sun pro make the little kits that come with plastic line and a couple different fittings, that is where i got mine, definitely do it at the front drivers side of the intake and not the fuel pressure regulator line, that needs an unmolested signal.

I got my VDO boost gauge from someone off of here and all it came with was the tubing and the fitting to hook to the gauge. I cant seem to find this opening on the front of the intake where I can put a fitting to tie into. I also have the anolog dash in the car Im putting this gauge in so I dont think the line is on the passenger side fender like it is in your case 85 ttypewh1. If any of you could take a pic of where this opening is Id appreciate it. Thanks

Ok I found what I think is it but Im not sure. I took a pic so please let me know if this is it. Id much rather wait and make sure this is it before I start working. here is the pic. Is this it? The pic is a little blury but you should be able to see it good enough.

Thats it brother, the best place for the boost gauge to get its reading.

Ok thanks guys. So all have to do is go somewhere and get a 1/8 male NPT fitting and put it in that hole.

Yeah thats it. I got my fitting in part of a VDO gauge kit at Napa, it came with 16ft of nylon tubing. The part number on the package is 7012153. I think it comes with a couple of extra fittings you don't need, but the one you need is definitely in there.

I just went to the parts store and found the right fitting in the back in their inventory. I just hope I can get it installed right since its kind of a tight area.

I got it in, and it seems to be working great. I had some trouble at first but then decided to remove the temp sensor to the left of it and then I had plenty of room to use a wrench to tighten it up. I never thought of removing the coil pack, but I would have had to look on this site to see how to do that because Ive never removed that before. Im still sort of a newbie at this stuff but Im learning everyday. Thanks again for all of your guys help.
