what would be the best combination of rim and backspacing to put a set of 275x60x15 nitto drag radials between the frame and fenders evenly ?

3.75" X 8 would be perfect. 3.75" bs X 7" and 3.5" BS x 8" would probably work fine, too (somewhere in that range).

Stock T or GN wheels should work with rubbing on hard corners. A small spacer and/or Al brake drums would eliminate most of the rubbing.

I just went thru this. You definitely need a 15X8 rim. I'd run a 3 and 1/2 inch backspace.

49-blues,

I'm having an inch band welded in a pair of stock GN wheels

and will do the rear brakes, adding aluminum drums at the same

time. That should give the new 275-60 Nittos room!

49 blues, I'm running P275-60-15's on 8in. wide specially made GN rims, and they look great. Let me know if you want to see pics...'bye, Claude.

thanks to all that replied and claude id love to see some pics-thanks-i want to do this install soon and want it to come out the best it can.

jim-link is not working for me either.with the 3.5" backspacing is there more clearance on the front side or rear frame side? thanks im thinking along the lines of a 8" rim with 4" backspace and using aluminum drums to bring the rim out abit.

Thought so - server is reporting no traffic. I need to mess with it...thanks for the heads up.

EDIT:

Looks like the bastages at OptOnline have figured out how to block me from hosting stuff (not really supposed to). Change ports but won't work. Only people on the OptOnline network can get to it.

If you want me to e-mail the pics, let me know. In the meantime, I'm off to find someone to host my sites. Any suggestions?

Jim

49 blues, don't try to put wheels with more than 3 1/2" rear spacing or they will touch the frame!!!
I cannot understand how some guys claim to have wheels with a 4" rear spacing, and not having the tire touch the frame??...There is simply not enough clearance between the tire sidewall and the car's frame!...
'Bye, Claude

P.S: 49 blues, I sent you an e-mail...

:)

wellll.....I am running 8" Centerlines with 4"BS and aluminum drums and have plenty of clearance with the 275X60 BFG DR's...no rubbing (I do have new springs and air bags)

reply to azgn...

azgn, it's not that I don't believe you, it's just that on my particular car, I don't see how I could go to a wheel with more than 3 1/2" rear spacing!!!...Could the aluminum drums have something to do with it? If they are thicker and move the wheel a little more outside, then the wheel studs must be too short, no?...

Claude. :)

the drums are good for maybe 1/8".........I have long studs so that is not an issue....I would agree that the "ideal" BS for 8" wheels on our cars is about 3.75".........if ya want to fit just about anything! (BTW, 275X50's would rub on my frame)
