I'm looking for exhaust recommendations. Upgrading my '85 and have a 3" DP about to be installed and currently I'm looking at the options for rest of the exhaust. Looking for the best sounding best flowing system I can get my hands on. If it's not the most expensive option better yet. I like a nice low rumble and I love to hear the turbo. Right now I have a nice new stock replacement and it's too damn quiet.

Most say the old ATR Pitbull (power slot) exhaust systems are the best sounding and produce the most HP on the ‘86-‘87’s, but are hard to find.
The mufflers were made in both SS and mild steel available in 2.5” and 3”, although I believe the piping was all SS.
There has been quite a few threads discussing replacement mufflers, with the consensus being the Borla XR1 race muffler.
The best new exhaust system available would be the GN1 3” system as mentioned. The only way to make it better would be to replace the mufflers with the Borla XR1 race mufflers.
Buying a used setup and swapping the mufflers would be an affordable solution.

Some good reading. Is there anything out there like ATR Pitbull mufflers?

There's no "good" sounding exhaust.

The firing order is crap and it's a low compression V6. Nothing you can do makes this thing sound any better than a really angry Camry.

Our exhaust note is not our strength. Select exhaust on power, not sound. If you want sound, swap it for a Nissan VQ.

hello peoples: I don't know what the latest and greatest is now but I had a BGC dual muff. system and dual muffs sound the best. I gave it away to a member here. Now I have a RJC stock type and I like it. Snot too loud and it's straight out like a single shot. I do have a cat and removing it might make it sound better or maybe snot. Have fun

looks like some good quality stuff from GN1. I'm still pretty new to these cars- is the collector and cat location the same across all years?

Thought it sounded more like someone strangling a goat.
I'm not sure that's a valid comparison.

Have you met a goat? The logistics of strangling one are immense, I don't think anybody's actually strangled one, so they have no idea what it would sound like. Entirely speculative.

My favorite sounding exhaust has always been the old Hooker catback system that Kirban sold years ago.

I don’t think anything today sounds better than GN1’s system and it’s all polished aluminum.

I have the RJC 3" DP feeding Pypes 2.5" system with the straight through Race mufflers. Definite performance improvement. Sound quality is OK. There is a bit of drone sometimes.

Think that was the system only came in aluminum.. only like $300.. I waited too long and it became unavailable
