Best time or drive it home? (poll)

As I took my new combo to the track I knew I could get a better time but also didn't want to tow the car home so I strapped on my skirt and stuck with being somewhat consevative with my boost/tune. I'm just not that interested in changing headgaskets. It will likely happen at some point but there's no reason to rush things IMO.

Am I in the minority of Turbo Buick owners? Obviously nobody is purposely going to crank the boost just to blow a headgasket (or worse) but I imagine some of you are squeezing every last bit from your combo and are on the ragged edge knowing that odds are good that a tow is in your immediate future. Just a silly poll to satisfy my curiosity.

I defer to the " I have a trailer with a winch" option and follow up with "run it to the edge"....although I have not had the chance to do so yet.

I'd say run it a bit harder; your combo is good for a whole lot more

To get a feel for it, you should go to a local dyno, and do some tuning.

You should be in the high 11s with that mph.....

I used to drive it there and get towed home

Now I own a trailer. Changing wheels at the track is a thing of the past for me!!:biggrin:

I'd get that thing to make TA49, TE44, PTE51 power and stop there.

You shouldn't need a tow at 25-26 psi. :smile:

Get sticky tires to run 11's at your current level.

I drive my cars to and from the track. I usually push them pretty hard 22-25lbs of boost. Should not be a problem as long as you are smart about it.

As I've said in my other posts I am quite new to these Turbo 6's and this was my first time out with the new combo. I feel that I stayed well on the safe side so I know it's got more in it with better track tires, launch practice and some more tweaking....and especially more confidence. Basically, it's a low mileage car in great condition so I don't want to mess it up because I'm running it beyond my place low on the learning curve. I'm happy posting that I'm a little slow for my combo as opposed to "hey I got an 11.6 at 117MPH but blew a rod out of the side of my block". Cheers!
