i just picked up a spare intake and need to get it cleaned up before i start porting. i was thinking of getting it sandblasted but i dont know if that will cause any damage. what will work best to removove all the crud on the outside and grease on the inside. thanks.

I soaked mine at work in a 55 gallon drum that is about 1/4 full of old Berryman's Carb Cleaner. It took off all the coating and got rid of all traces of grease and carbon. I repainted the outside with a hi-temp Aluminum color that has to be heat-cured and it still lookes like a JetHot coating.:D

I believe mine was hot tanked when I had my motor rebulit.

No need to really worry too much about the insides...your just gonna clean that out with your porting anyway....

I just finished porting my intake....have some pics of it too...cut and paste the link at the bottom of the page.

Only areas I ported were the runners and the EGR hump area where the turbo fits into the intake. Otherwise...its hollow and LARGE inside there.

Guys

Just a thought. Look at this Intake

You might also want to think about the throttle body mods that were done on this 84 throttle body.

And if you want to really improve your car you could add:

And to put the whole package together this would do it:

The above combination would put your cars into the 11's easily.

I've also got BGC headers for the 84/85 with a 3" downpipe and a larger Up pipe. I'm selling my parts as I also own a Stage II powered Cobra and want to concentrate on it and simply don't have the time for the GN.

Regards,

Bob
