My turbo shield has a little surface rust. What's the best way to refinish it and keep it looking factory? Was there a coating on it from the factory? Thanks

Sand blast it and powder coat it or have it re-galvanized.

I had mine ceramic coated. doesn't look really look factory but its also not showy.

Spooling, your engine bay looks great. I have to clean mine up- little surface rust starting in some spots since its been in storage.

I took mine to work, (painter in a bodyshop) sanded it, etch primed it, primed it, sanded it, silver basecoat, then clear. All DuPont stuff, that was about 13 years ago, has held up quite well, which Im surprised considering the heat.

I wire wheeled mine and painted with VHT paint, it's the "very high temp" paint you can get at most all auto parts stores. Make sure you read the directions though, because it does require to be heated treated in stages and it can be done in your kitchens oven. Total cost for me, $2.50 for the wire wheel and like $9.80 something for the aluminum colored VHT at Pep Boys.

I was going to have it JetHot coated but instead painted it. Basically I scuffed it with some fine emery cloth then wiped it down with some acetone. Then sprayed it with regular aluminum paint from Lowes.

Once it dried for a couple of days I lightly buffed it with a clean cloth. This gave it a slightly duller sheen, looks good in the end. Looks a lot like Azrial89's shield in color and sheen.

hello boys and girls; the shield protects the turbo but what it is is a heat sink. So as I did got it PC and that's not the best for heat removal. It might it worst. PC, paint and all that makes it look better but that's it. IMO chrome is the worst. I don't know what I'm going to do with a cut shield I just got but it won't be PC.
