Best Way to Ship a Transmission, Weight?

What's the best way to ship a 2004r trans? Box it, stick it on a skid?

Also, what does one weigh?

I need to caculate costs and the trans is still in my car.

When I recieved my trans from CK few years back its just strapped to a regular wood pallet with some 1 by's scabbed around the pan area to kinda keep it in place. It was shipped via overnite..overnite is teh name ofthe shippers

They weigh about 125# without the converter. Bag it and strap it down to a pallet.

I had a friends dad build me a crate. I shipped to PTS and shipped it back.

It was 150 to ship and ship back from Topeka, KS to Wilton, CA. It took 2 days to get there.

Weight, i'd have to look at the paper work, but it is around 150 pounds with crate and all.

I would make a crate!!

No one can screw with the trans (someone may scrape it) Also when shipping back to you, if you buy a converter they can put it in top of the trans case and between the top of the crate.

Also when shipping in a crate, take two bolts through the wood through the bellhousing. Then take a 2x4 so the tailhousing can rest on the board.

I can take pictures if you really want and get direct dimensions.

But you can use a crate to protect the trans, or use the pallet and worry about people screwing with it.

I enclose em in a plywood box too. Doesn't take long to build one around it and I bolt the bell housing to one end. Takes about an hour to get it done and the piece of mind is nice that no one could mess around....... Mine usually end up being 180#

Screw blocks to the bottom and the truck drivers are happy to pick em up......

Our T400 from CK performance was shipped in a plastic GM trans box.

I've seen a 200-4R fir inside a Ford E4OD plastic tranny case.

Here's how I do it:

Use a freight service & stay far away from the trucking Co.

This could save you some of the freight charge$.
Check with Freight Center (Scott) in Clearwater, Fl. (Google)
Your trans is #85 class freight BTW.
I moved a 3 X 5 pallet (rear end) from NJ to Tx for $155.00 terminal/terminal. Saved me a a least half and used the same
freight co., that gave me $325.00 quote.

When I shipped mine from NM to Brian Hofer (Michigan?) I bagged it in heavy plastic, padded it carefully with styrofoam, then wrapped it in a couple of layers of cardboard. Shipped it FedEx for ~$70.
