The blower motor won't shut off even with the key off. GN has electronic heater control. Anyone have any ideas?

get a hammer..jk  , sounds like time for the new vac. solenoids that control the hvac controls

my parents olds just done the same thing except it stayed on and caught on fire.

Was the resistor for the blower motor and relay.

hope that helps some way.

Since I have had the same problem, here is very probably what is wrong: There is an electronic panel that goes down in the plenum box located by the blower motor. This panel is historically unreliable and may have gone bad. As I remember from threads about that panel, it was used in other GM cars so you may be able to get a new replacement. If someone out there knows what p/n it is, please post it as I would like to have a spare while they are still available.

sounds like high speed relay (small metal box outside near blower motor)is stuck closed.not resistor.

Quite possibly Blower and A/C clutch control module located under the blower motor connector next to the blower motor as previously mentioned.

I would turn the key to ON and shut off all A/C, heat, etc. so it's entirely off then turn the key OFF and see what happens.

Or else take the wiring connector off next to the blower motor and see if it shuts off.

There is a solid state switch inside that module and the fan power is via the fusible link so if shorted it will run continuously. :frown:

Blower always on w/electronic controler

I have a similar setup on my GN and my experience is that it happens every time I wash the car. I usually wand wash and clean the engine bay area. The problem is water around the power terminal coming out of that electronic board that drops into the blower plenum the water conducts enough current I guess to turn on a transistor or whatever. If that is the case with your car you might want to check the connector for corrosion. After a year or so mine eventually corroded enough to burn the spade to the point the blower output was reduced.

run on

Hi,
I think you are talking about the blower motor, right? My climate controlled Regal gave me fits in this area, and I tried to avoid just yanking the whole system. End result? I bypassed what is known as the blower controller, ran the same stuff there ever was. End result: cool!

use dielectric grease (same stuff used in spark plug wires boots to keep them from not seizing to plug)in plugs/connections that are known for water intrusion, this will keep moisture out.

Hi,
I was semi brain dead when I posted my last message, hope this is clearer.
Your problem is common with the climate control option. Most likely, the blower control, which really runs the whole show, has failed. It is mounted on the evaporator case, under the hood, next to the blower motor. Now, my problem was that the battery would go dead when the car sat a while, because the blower ran at low speed even with the key off. I installed a relay in that circuit, shutting off the power to the blower when the key is off. I did a pretty clean job; the system works normally. After 5 years, I would say it is fixed. Good luck with your problem!
