Was headed for a car show this am, car had idled for a few minutes, drove to bank, and stopped at home to pick up a item I forgot, and drove less than a quarter mile and heard some racket like something was rubbing or metal grinding, car wouldn't shift. Turned down side street to see if something dragging (car still idling) nothing showing under neath--went to back out on street--No Reverse. Put in drive and it went forward but will not shift, I put it on jack stands in shop, and noticed some up/down movement on driveshaft (possible bearing going out on tailshaft?) Car is HA, and has BQ trans., with approx. 56,000 miles on it, supposedly sat in storage for several years prior. Anyway, would like your thoughts, Please... Anyone else had this problem?

Just thought I'd give a update...

Got transmission back in late last weekend- just got out to drive it--
this is what was found in trans--

other than bits of low/reverse clutch plate shown above, splines in sun shield were gone
(explains the faint clunk I had been hearing), 1-2 actuator spring broken

Trans has been rebuilt with hardened parts, shift kit, etc.
