I recently had a new trans mount put in the car when I had the new motor put in and now have an issue that when there is too much weight in the car the driveshaft will hit the safety loop. The loop is the one Kirban sells and was not an issue before the new mount.

Could worn bushings body cause this? The car has well over 130K miles on the body and they probably need replaced anyways.

what??? your kirban loop hits the driveshaft...now thats a surprise ..

fix the loop
have had to do this to every one i come across
before and after.

I made a new loop after adding the poly bushing trans and engine mounts, 4" alum driveshaft was just too close.
Not a Kirban unit either....

Guess i'll have to pull it off and massage it. What did you do to bend it that way?

I had the same problem. Switched to a metco unit; problem solved.

does the Metco one fit better? I don't have the equipment to cut up and weld one

looks like a simple.

Easy for a guy like yourself to say there Mike, yet a little more difficult for others whom do not have at their fingertips - all of those "Fabrication Goodies" you have acquired over the years :)

Happy 2013 !!!!!

Yes I have a obtained a big hammer for my shop, can fix almost anything to it's death !

I had the same thing happen to me freaked me out after the drive home. I had to trim down the back end of it so it would stop hitting.
I kind of curious why they are still being sold? I know kirban sells the round driveshaft loop now I wonder if he stopped selling the old design loop?

The one on this car has been there since the late 90s. It cleared fine with the old worn out mounts :p

I use a 3.5" aluminum driveshaft from Denny's with a Metco loop. Best one out there IMO.

I've got the Detroit Speed and Engineering loop on my car and it has never had an issue in its time on the car.

Few tips:

We also carry the Metco one which is a high quality piece....the one referred to as the Kirban style we been selling for many many years and yes issues can present them selves....unfortunately several factors can play a part in to why it may not fit correctly. Same reason some owners can run larger rims on the back with no issues and others discover that one tire may rub the frame...

None of the cars from the factory are on the frame straight....body bushings get crushed over a period of time. The loop we been selling I believe was first designed by Kenny Duttweiler and we used to buy it from him many years ago.

We are phasing it out to only offer the Metco one....makes no sense to carry two versions.

Reminds me when we first developed the 16 by 8 GNX style wheel.....how many offsets I fooled with to get them to fit on my GN back around 1989...one reason American Racing never offered a 16 by 8 for the car because of fit problems which could arise on some cars but not all cars....

This is what lead me to my original question. I probably need to do the body bushings, the car has a ton of miles on it. If replacing the body bushings puts the loop back to where it needs to be I don't need to spend another 60-80 on another loop.
