Body trim question

I bought my 87GN knowing it needs paint and some minor body repair. The question I have is are the drip rails and trim around the door windows stainless steel from the factory ? The paint is coming off and I see the stainless underneath. It seems odd that someone would go through all the trouble of swapping them out but I don't remember my other GN doing this

Its steel but not shiny underneath. It's quite possible someone painted over chrome trim pieces (non W-02 trim).
