Hello i have always liked the sound of a BOV i have a 85 GN i know i know the Hot Air ;) But what is the point of a POV im running 19# of boost should i put one on. And if it wont hurt my performance or maybe if it will help it can you tell me were to put it? I HAVE NO IDEA Thanks

I think if someone can make a dual bypass system that doesnt have the drivability issues that some have experienced, I think it would old alot of appeal fo many. Once I can get the more nagging and more important problems fixed, Im probably going to put my own system together like I did with my cobra.

The throttlebody is before the turbo on a hotair plus there's no intercooler or plumbing. A BOV on a hotair would do nothing. Even with just an intercooler a BOV is pointless because the TB is still before the turbo. I didn't install one on my intercooled hotair until I moved the throttlebody to the pressure side. Then it was necessary.

It's really getting sad these days. I've watched the changes taking place in the T/R community over the last 20 years and the new crop of young owners are adding another dimension of lunacy to some of the wild stuff we've seen over the years.

Now it's BOV's :(
They all seem to think it's needed, or at the very worst, just like the sound

Probably going to be a lot more used T/R's showing up on the market in the next few years with those piece crap BOV's showing up. :frown:

I agree with most of that. It's just that for $100 it's cheap insurance just in case. With my BOV it actually makes less noise when I let off the gas than with no valve. With the powerstroke IC, about 15' of 3" plumbing, and a decent sized turbo you should have heard the noise it made and the duration of it when I used to let off the gas even with just a couple psi. I don't care about the sound and I probably got more looks from people without the BOV.

For what it's worth, on the stage motor car we were told to run a BOV from a very well known vendor. While functional, every time you close the throttle in that car with the HKS SS BOV you want to cover your ears. It's a horrible sound.

I am one of the newer owners out there just purchasing my WE4 back in July with teeth cut on an all wheel drive 5 speed 4 cylinder. The great thing about this sport in my opinion is the evolution. After all those who came before you and were pioneers on this buick platform you are now protecting, well they were probably greeted with thoughts similar in sentiment to those you just shared.

I like the oher person who posted put a tial blow off valve on mine, not for the sound at all. I think it provides cheap insurance, when I first started running my car the sneeze sound just didn't sound right and it alone drew attention. It just doesn't seem natural, but you guys have been running them that way for years. To say the least, I prefer no sound which is what the Tial offers to the factory sneeze. Call it crazy, call it preference at the end of the day it is a simple modification that can be easily taken off of the car.

I went with a Tial valve on my car also, It really makes no sound at all. Just a rush of air, no whistles, honks, chirps and other assorted crap the ricer valves do. I look it as cheap insurance, and so far it's working. 15,000 miles on my current turbo and no extra shaft play at all.

Cheap insurance? Well, maybe. But most of us old timers, myself included have been running Turbo Regals now for near 20 years. My original turbo is still alive and going strong (although on my daughter's T/R). I've never suffered a turbo failure as a result of not running a BOV. Sorry but I'm unconvinced. The one and only failure I've suffered was a result of ingesting pieces of a champion spark plug.
BOV's were originally concieved to help keep boost up between shifts on a manual tranny'd car.
