Just did a routine break job. Have not done one in many years. Is there a break in procedure? Saw a tv show, they did a break in proccess but it was a big dollar brake job.

The pad material has to run in...i.e. conform with the surface of the rotor and/or drum. But that happens within the first 100 miles regardless.

IMHO, a routine pad/shoe replacement should be followed by a fluid flushing/bleeding.

Do about 10-15 fairly hard stops from 45 to 50 mph, letting the brakes cool for about 30 seconds between stops. They're broken in. HTH.

The procedure in one of those professional trade magazines for the auto repair industry was to do about 5 moderately hard slowdowns from 60 to 20 mph or so, with 30 seconds to a minute between for cooling, then 5 more even harder, with more cooling in between. They said to NOT STOP during this, so that the hot pads wouldn't sit in one spot on a hot rotor but would keep turning for fastest cooling.
