This is a 91 Escort I`m not sure what the trans is. Closest I could find is a A4F-EL or 4EAT-F. I noticed about a month ago slow to engage R & D & lots of slippage on shifts. I serviced the trans. the oil was dark but I`m sure it was the 90K original oil. There was some metal in the pan looked like thrust washer material.
After the service no change or very little, but I did notice that on heavy throt. that the shifts were better. I looked up the TV cable adjustment procedure but I didn`t put a guage on it like the book said. I moved it a little tighter & things seemed alot better.
So today I got the bright idea to look at it some more, still alot of slippage into second at light throt. I move the TV cable tighter by about an 1/8 in. seemed pretty firm into 2nd & the rest of the gears.
On the return from the test drive the shifts went soft again.
So I guess I should get a press. guage on it there looks to be 3 ports what one to use & what press. to look for.
Or am I beating a dead horse`s relative.
BTW what are you to use for fluid in these things I hope Dexron is OK cause that`s what`s in it. now
Thanks
Jim
