Biggest sign is when you see a gap between the two halves...hehe ;) common one is thumping of the floor board like hitting a bump, but you should be able get under and physiclly push it up & down to see if it is.

I had fun with this. everytime I turned left I heard a grinding noise. first thoughts were the damn upper control arm bushings again. yeah they look a little cooked and with the big THDP on probably need new ones. Have the old ones pulled and new ones put it. align car too. but guess what? noise whenever turning left. must be the brakes. new rotors, calibers, lines etc. Nope still noise and I'm getting frustrated. so its time for someone else to drive the car and for me to listen and find exactly where the noise is. O geez its on the floor board under the console. is the trans mount busted? take a look well its there but wait what's goiong on? seems original owner had added a JC whitney cruise control which I had since disconnected but the sensor was still bolted next to the drive shaft. the trans mount had broken through and whenever I turned there was enough play for the driveshaft to rub the sensor. OK only spent hundreds of dollars for a $20 fix. so I'm ready to rip out the cruise sensor but change my mind and figure it's like a wear tab on my brakes. if I loose the trans mount I'll hear it pretty quickly and THIS TIME KNOW WHAT IT IS!
