I don't know if anyone else has had this happen, but I was inspecting my parts today and found a broken dampener. I installed the champion irons on my stock cam engine about 1000 miles ago. I recently changed the cam to a edelbrock 204/214 and installed the stock springs for the break in period. I looked at all my springs before reinstalling and noticed a broken dampener on the first spring on the passenger side.

Had that had to me about seven years ago. Just about everyone was broken.

I am installing a spring Dusty recommended instead. It's a Sealed Power vs739r. Have you been running a dampener or do you remove them?

No dampner, I have no idea anymore what spring I have now though.

I've seen many broken dampers over the years. I've seen more under sprung engines in the last year than broken dampers in the last 10 years.

The ones it am installing are 104lbs at 1.700". If the dampener is just going to break I don't see any reason in using them, right?

I run comp 981's with no damper
Had a few break and destroy the seal
Engine would smoke on start on start up
Dampers removed no more problems
