Around 200 cars showed up for this years 2005 Buick/Ford Shootout. I believe there were 93 races in the finals & the Ford guys came away the overall winners, but I was told that the final "unofficial" score was 47-45 Fords, although I heard from more than a few people that the gentleman scoring the race may have lost official count more than once & that Buick may have actually won ....Maybe someone can set the record straight & give us the "official" results??
The Buicks did have the 2 fastest cars there & they were John Schmidt's twin turbo'd Opel & Art Freeman's twin turbo'd GS. John was quickest in qualifying with a 7.92 & Art ran a 7.99!!! I believe the fastest Ford was around an 8.30. Very sad to report that in the finals Art's car came off the line with incredible power, BUT something went terribly wrong less than mid track & flames started coming out from beneath the car leading to a loss.. Not sure exactly what happened, but hopefully someone on here can tell us more...
Also wanted to ask what happened to Andrew91GT??? I was really looking forward to seeing his car race, BUT he was a no show.. Anyone know what happened ???
Anyways, congrads to the Ford guys, you brought some very fast cars & trucks!!! I had a great time, enjoyed the racing & am already looking forward to next year!!!(hopefully, I'll be participating next year instead of watching...)

I heard a rod exitted the side of the block.

AGAIN?!!,Damn, poor Art can't get a break at that track. He windowed the stage block in his GN there last year at the same event.Shame too...its a beautiful race car.

Luck just hasn't been on Art's side. Very nice car though, it is a shame a rod exitted the block as with his GN last year breaking. :frown: Got it on video. I did hear from the announcer down after eliminations were over that they did lose track of counting points twice and do not know where they mest up on counting. Oh well, that's how the cookie crumbles and we move on. Congratulations to the Fords, I may not like them, but I do respect their cars. They had some very fast Lightnings their as well as a few others. I won my race to contribute a point but it just wasn't enough. The GN has been their 7 years in a row and its 6-0 , never lost a elmination race in it. I too wondered where Andrew was this year as I know he was planning on being their. I will be their next year as its a great event put on by the Oklahoma Buick Club!

I kept track in the stands and 47-45 is correct.A few crucial redlights killed us.We were behind 46-44 with 3 races to go.Peterson red lighted as did his opponent so no one got a win. Art windowed his block while he was well on the way to a win.Schmidt got our final win.

I sure feel sorry for Art Freeman.Noble hasnt been kind to him.

Quite a few Ford sand baggers this year.
