I have a 109 block and I believe 8445 heads sitting in my garage.
The engine came out of either an 86 Olds Cutlass or an 86 Buick Regal...not sure. But I was wondering if I built this engine to 3.8l turbo specs ,with the stronger crank and stuff, could I add turbo without going to fuel injection...at least not at this time, I'm not made of money. Any info at all would be helpful! Will probably going in my '83 Z28. Also...will I have to get a stronger tranny or will my 700r4 hold up...what about the rear end?

Thanks,
Skull

Welcome to the board,

Honestly, I think you would be best off saving up and peicing together an SFI LC2 setup, if you want a turbo 3.8. It would probably be easier to make more power N/A on that motor with the right carb setup and a bit more c/r than trying to fool with a blow through carb/turbo setup. I never knew the carbed turbo Regals of the early 80's to be known for their quickness. As far as the tranny and rear in the '83 Z holding up, they will not if whatever you end up building makes any kind of substansial horsepower. The trans. is probably tired and if freshened would hold up for awhile. Same goes for the rear untill you get sticky with the tires and start launching hard.

You'll save more $$$ and headaches waiting a little longer to do it right the first time, IMO.

Thanks for the info stageII86

Man you guys are quick at your responses. Thanks for the info. Thats what I will probably do then. What would I need to make it fuel injected besides intake, injectors, computer, sensors, and harness?

in-tank fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, possibly some kind of block-off for a removed mechanical fuel pump, probably some junk I'm forgetting. A fairly large project but if you search the board some other people go into detail on what's involved

Master rebuild kits?

Does anybody know of a good master rebuild kit that I could purchase for the turbo 3.8? And where is the best place for my to find a crank?

The tranny and rear will probably handle everything fine. Set up properly, and turbo/carb 3.8 will be about the equivalent of a stock 350.

How much do you think a Buick 3.8L Turbo Crank with the pressed fillets, ground 10/10, and the oil holes have been chamfered...how much do yall think it is worth?
Also...how much would this crank weight?
