busted scanmaster

I bought a scanmaster from a board member and attempted to hook it up.

It already had a cigarette lighter adapter for the power and the ground, and had a small spade style connector on the remaining wire.

When I hooked it up ( sliding the spade into the E terminal port) the scanmaster says "2.0" and then goes blank.

Whats up with this thing?

I tried pressing the buttons, wiggling wires....and so forth.

It just gives me the 2.0 then goes blank until its un plugged and then plugged in again....

any ideas?

If it's giving you the 2.0 "boot-up" screen it's getting power OK.

It's probably not getting a signal from your ALDL. Check the connection on the spade and inspect the wire along it's length to make sure you don't have any bad spots.

You might even unscrew the two bolts that hold the ALDL connector to the bottom of the dash and look on the back side of it to make sure everything is still kosher there.

There have been cases where the ECM is damaged and the ALDL doesn't work on some cars.....I doubt that's the problem. I think you just have a bad connection at the ALDL port.

TurboBob (Bob Bailey) is the designer of the Scanmaster and he's on this board frequently. He'll help you get it working if you can't figure it out.

I had the same issue with mine
