I just picked up another GN rear for my Malibu and was curious if anyone had any experience using the Ford 9 inch axle ends such as what Moser sells.
I have heard all the horror stories about c clip eliminators leaking when driven on the street.
I would like some opinions as to what some of you guys use. The 9 inch ends sound great as they use larger roller bearings and seal with a gasket.
I just want to hear some feed back from you guys before I drop the loot for axles and c clip eliminators.
I am also curious if the LPW girdle and brace kit would be worth buying. The car will be powered by a 406 small block with a shot of spray and a Tremec TKO 5 speed manual.

I use the Ford axles as do a number of cars here in Phoenix (the Moser setup)

Much better than c-clip eliminators...no leaks, no problem

have to cut axle tube, so you gotta find somebody that knows what they are doing to install

How complete is the set up from Moser and how much will it set me back? Is it for 28 spline or 30 spline axles? Also, what do you do with the rear brakes? GM or Ford drums?

I had the setup with the Moser 28 spline axles and c-clip eliminators and they would leak on a regular basis. The c-clip removal and installation (when they leak and need to be replaced) is very difficult. The last straw was when I noticed my splines on the axles twisting! I did some research and found Tom's Differential in Paramount, Ca. and he set me up with the Ford ends and his axles(30 spline) which he guaranteed not to brake. Life has been good since I had this done about two years ago. I do some occassional street driving and hard drag strip launches (1.48 sec. sixty foot times) and no problems. I also went with 11 inch brakes which helps my spool up and an Eton posi. When Tom did the ends he also strightened and welded the axle tubes. Hope this helps.

How much does such an operation cost to perform when you send the rear out to have the flanges installed?

Genvair, I think the price was approx. $500 for the axles, bearings, straightening and welding the axle tubes and attaching the Ford ends. This was done several years ago, so the prices might have gone up.
