I have the 02 Camaro, 12 x 12 dicses.
With 275/40x17, up front, and 285/40x17, out back, I can lock them all up, if I want to.

IMO, the 13s are overkill.
Bruce I have the Bracket that were sold on this board ,seems almost a yr ago, well I cant remember what needs to be done to the stock rotors ,,do you have the link handy...
Dennis :D

The 12" LS-1 brakes do about the same as the larger 13" C-5 and your not subjected to getting certain 17" rims that will fit. i have three sets of 15" rims that fit the 12" LS-1 set-up.

The stock rotors need the rotor part cut off, and turned down to 5.7". Then the longer studs installed. I think there was some comment about the 5.7 varing, but if you have the new rotor handy it's easy enough to check as you're doing it, or to have the machinist do a final check.

Hey Bruce

Thanks for the reply. After reading everything you have done with your brake system and all the stuff you have tried I consider you a break guru. I'll probably just go with the 02 Camaro 12 x 12 dics then and convert over to vacuum. I left you a PM over at TP6.

Thanks!

about the 13" as overkill I have to say cant put a price on safety IMHO this is one area I refuse to deem as overkill.....the first time you need them theyve paid for themself and then some....

when I had my stock 12" jl9 brakes on my 87 vette I used to get brake fade everytime I got on them in spirited driving or even just a occasional blast here and there on the expressway......that was with pfz pads, was no different that the 10" brakes on my 89 mustang

when I changed out to the j55 13" j55 brakes zr1, with the same driving style I never got that scared to death feeling ever again, I have since changed to an 89 vert vette and upgraded my j55 brakes to 13.5" brembo 4 pots big reds...
next Im moving up to 6piston movits? have to see how my funds run then I will drop them brembo brakes into my gn....

but then again come to think of it anything is better than those damn stockers forget the above.....them stock 10 inchers make me scared to death just thinkin I havent gottn rid of them for so long.

I can overpower the adhesion level of the front tires (at any time), and I'm runnin 275/40x17, and can't see a way to run any more tire. Once you can lock up the biggest tire you can fit (at anytime), it's overkill.

14" rotors, and 20 pad calipers, can't lock up a tire, any better then any other set up that locks up the same size tire. In some racing applications where you do repeated high speed stopping, they might work better, but the original posting didn't mention any unlimited form of racing. With the 12s I've made repeated high speed stops, and never had any noticeable fade.

There is also a point of deminishing returns, and added complexity just reduces reliability. It should be interesting to see how the new Vette, brakes, pan out with the inidividual pad/piston setup works out.

Check out these threads, they have a TON of info on this subject. That's where I've been getting all my info. The Monte SS board even has pictures of some of the mods.
