Anyone know what the correct clearance is for camshaft bearings ?
Bought a set & they seam alot looser than the old ones .

This is from the factory service manual.

Bearing journal diameter (camshaft diameter?) - 1.785 to 1.786"

Journal clearance in bearings (#1) - 0.0005" to 0.0025"

Journal clearance in bearing (#2, 3, 4) - 0.0005" to 0.0035"

I guess this means that #1 (assuming this is the front cam bearing) could be a little tighter than the rest. That's only an assumption...someone else may know better.

Picked up some "EngineTech" cam bearings yesterday.
Built a cam bearing install tool last night , sized the plugs to the new bearings.
Go to insert a plug into the old bearings to remove , doesnt fit ?? Old bearings to tight,, WTF.
Put new bearings on cam & they are floppy. .010 clearance. probably not so good for oil presure.
Back they go, lesson learned.

what year block i ran into the wrong bearings on a 84 block but they were to tight cam didnt fit in

Its a 1987.
Mabye I had too early bearings. Do the 84-85's use a different cam ?

Went to a few different parts places, alot tried to sell Engine tech again, 2 places said Engine tech are made by King. King seams to have a good rep here.
