Speedpro 204-214 should be here Monday. Any tips on insuring a sucessful break-in? If that indeed was the problem with my current cam (and I hope it was/is) then I want to make sure it doesnt happen again.
I did have problems keeping the car running when I was trying to break in the current cam which shouldnt be an issue this time around, but any tips or suggestions would still be appreciated, thanks.

when you first crank it over bring it up to around 2000 to 2500 rpms for about 20-30 minutes to break in cam lobes-make sure you have good oil pressure-make sure you run regular oil and not synthetic-cause sythetic doesnt have the proper lubrricants in it to break in the cam lobes-synthetic oil will destroy the lobes in no time-keep regular oil in it for at least 1000 miles before thinking about switching to sythetic oil. also its a good idea to add a pint of gm s engine oil supplement to help break in the motor and cam.after the cam break in for the 20-30 minutes i usually dump the oil and filter and run fresh oil for about 500 miles and then change it again at 1000 miles just to make sure i cleaned out all the break in lubes and assembly lubricants in the motor and then at 3000 miles i start my normal oil and filter changes.the gm engine oil supplement is pn#1052367.HTH

another thing you may want to look into would be the spring pressures.some people like to use stock or or the 979 springs or 980 comp cam springs(around 85 lbs seat pressure) to break in cam.then after awhile you can switch to Lt1 s or something in the 100-110 lb range.the 979 s are almost the same as stock, and there are also 981 s which are about the same as the Lt1 springs.i think im gonna try doing this myself next time around, although the last time i i used 104 lb springs and everything is still running strong.HTH
