Cam install HELP!

Where can i find detailed directions on how to install a cam? Ive seen a few threads on the site , but cant find them now. Whats the deal with the 25* timing? Is this a must, i was under the impression you put the #1 cyl at TDC and line up the dots on the cam gears and thats it. Then i was told i need to get it to 25* how do i do this ? Any help is appreciated

I did print the directions off the other website, any threads with pics here would be great, which i found once but cant seem to track down the thread now ?

I just went through this.

Pull:
intake
valvecovers
radiator
timing cover

Buy:
roller cam
rollerlifters
push rod checker
correct size push rods
cam lube
roller cam button
plastigage
gasket kit
Caspers cam tool
oil primer from autozone ( remove sleeve and sand down edges for proper fit)
coolant ( I use water wetter)
oil

Find TDC

Install cam with plenty of lube

Dots are at 6 and 12 on gears

Double roller needs NO tensioner or spring

Install timing cover with shimmed button and plasticgage ( usually takes 3 or 4 times )

Reinstall everything else but the cam sensor

Add oil and prime motor... Verify on oil pressure gage

Now go to 25* after TDC with the sticker provided from caspers ( 1.45'') and drop in cam sensor.

may have missed something out, so plesase post, but that shoul be the spoon fed version.

Now I got all of that. So i can install the cam at zero * dots at 6 and 12 on cam gears, place cover on check end play, torque down the cover then use the casper tool to find my 25* So if you dont have a degree wheel or caspers tool you can tfind 25*?

Correct. As V8 noted, install the cam with the dots on the gears facing each other, then the front cover, prime, etc. The TDC slot on the balancer should point exactly at the TDC marker on the front cover.

Take a ruler, and mark a piece of masking tape at 0 and 1.47". Take this piece of tape, and place it on the balanced to the LEFT (CCW) of the timing mark slot.

That is your 25 degree ATDC mark. Rotate the crank clockwise until the end of that piece of tape is at the 0 line in the timing mark.

Install the cam sensor.

Well I wont know until i get to the car this weekend, im still looking for some type of picture illustration of the 25* deal with the tape. Im sure it'll make sense when im in the garage but just reading with no pics and trying to understand this is kinda

Think about this- a clock.

12 is on the top, right? That's where the timing mark is in the balancer.

Now, mark a line at 10 oclock. That's the 25 degree ATDC mark.

Rotate the clock (balancer) to the right until 10 is on the top. Now you install the sensor.

Make more sense?

Got it. It should be pretty easy. I went to my local shop and once i had a motor in front of me it was like ok i get it now.

Make Sure:

That you are on compression - BOTH VALVES CLOSED on number one cylinder.

The dots will line up with the cam 180* out of sync so you only have a 50% chance of getting it right and a 50% chance of doing damage if the valves hit because the cam is off 180* if you just line up the dots.

Take your time to get a CLEAN work area - engine. It makes the repeated on and off of the cover go easier; you will have to take the cover off several times to get the end play right.
