Started this thread after reading "first start up help" What would the symptoms be of a 180° out cam sensor? I have been fighting a top end mph loss and was wondering if this could be it? I have had the cam sensor out last fall. I switched the plug wires front to back and without driving the car, couldnt really tell much difference! Would it be extremely obvious if it was 180° out at the strip? This really amazes me that the car will still run if you switch the wires on the coil pack front to back!

Usually has a tip in stumble really bad and drivability sucks. Least that's what happened when I tried it. Fuel will puddle on top of the valve before being sucked in.

The coil pack wire switching doesn't do anything cause it fires 2 plugs at once anyway on the same coil.

How old are your valve springs?

if my cam sensor is 180* off,
will it soak the plug wires?
because thats what happened. so i changed that.
i have broken in the cam,so ive tried to let it idle and
it has a rough idle.when cranking i heard a pop,or a puff.
and does cam lube or sealant burn smoke from tailpipe
or in engine compartment?

Not sure how old springs are, the car revs to 5000 easily in 1st and 2nd at the strip, it hits the wall in 3rd. Is this typical of weak springs? I did have a bad coil pack but havent been to the strip since changing it.

It's not so much that it would hit a wall with weaks springs (more has been made of this issue over the years that it really warrants). It's that it just wont rev so easilly up to the 5000 area.

I've still got the original springs in my 87. Still pulls hard all the way "out the back door" (finish line).
