cam sensor help needed

is there a procedure to set the cam sensor while on an engine stand or do I have to have the motor in the car, i thought i read a while back ther is a way to do this with a measurment on the balancer while at tdc

tom get your motor on top dead center....look on your balancer and mesure 1.5 " toward the passenger side and take a hack saw and mark the spot. bring the mark you just made to t.d.c ...
install your engine and prime the oil pump with a drill. after priming install your cam sencer into the motor with the wires on the cap to the drivers side of the car and the window of your cam sencer facing the passengers side head light.. this will have you set up just right.. BUDDY ..B&B RACING
