I just put a screw driver to the cam sensor today and heard a distinct tapping noise.I never heard what it sounds like when it is normal but I know its pretty loud. One thing I don't understand about this is that when i first start the car in cold weather it can be heard easily when first started up, then as it warms up it fades away but not completely. How, if this is my problem do I fix this cam sensor. One worry i had is when i had the car out and made a hard launch, right aound 45mph and 17lbs boost it makes a horrible buckling sound and loses power temporarily.Does the cam sensor do anything to affect performance??? I have some feeling that i may have a blown head gasket.Even though i drive the car around town fine when i really get on it it buckles.I know most head gaskets blown have antifreeze leaking in to the crank case or other places but i have no leaks anywhere.Maybe i blew the head gasket in a different place:confused: The only other thing that happened to me was that the antifreeze the last time I took the car out leaked and probably blew out the heater core for sure and maybe that was the sound>But why when that sound happens do i lose power at top end like that.I lost alot of coolant .All of it in my car.Hopefully this is all related to the Cam Sensor:confused:

One thing I know that the Cam Sensor didn't cause my heater core to blow or leak that bad because that would make no sense. But the other questions I have posted I have no clue about.

Im going to take the car out tonight and see how it runs.I have not replaced the heatercore but i have bypassed it and i also removed and reinstalled the turbo because i thought i had exhaust leaks. This also might be chip related.Maybe the power loss at top end is because I bought a new Jay carter 93 chip which might be leaning the car out at full throttle at high speeds 45mph.I just hope antifreeze doesn't bust through anything else because then i will suspect a blown head gasket.

cam sensor

realspool,
the cam sensor tells which cylnder gets fuel at the proper time
it has nothing to do with spark timing. if your sensor gear is
worn it will throw off fuel deliverey causing your problem,
the noise you hear is probably the worn gear, easy fix is to
replace cam sensor, best get another opinion though, sense
I'm new at this and just learning myself good luck
Vern

Thanks for that very interesting point.I believe that the Cam Sensor Gear is worn the way it sounds and if that would throw the fuel off that could be why my car is making a buckling sound and loss of power when i get into max boost and about 45mph.Maybe thats whats happening, the Cam sensor gear is worn and making my car run like this.I just hope its nothing more because the last time i was in it the heater core blew. But that probably has nothing to do with any other problems. The only other thing is the intercooler hose to the turbo was not a straight fiti installed it that way and it looks like its just hanging on and Im thinking that the pressure is not getting through and is backing up instead of going to the turbo.I fixed that problem though. The sound the car makes when it stumbles is close to if you had a intercooler pipe pop off but my car is just a temporary loss of power.I am also still learning, so instead of taking the car out on the street tonight and doing possibly more damage to whatever is wrong Im going wait to take it to a pro and let them check if I need a new Cam sensor gear.

Whoa there. Please go to "the other place" (moc.skciubobrut.www, a bit backward), and do a search for "can sensor and timing q". I instigated some very generous and detailed responses. Long story short, the cam sensor is only used as a reference so that the ECM knows which revolution is TDC #1. The fuel and spark timing are both dictated by the crank sensor.

Regarding the "bucking", it's more likely coil pack, wires, plug gap, ignition module, or intermittant fuel starvation.

I will make sure and run a search.I thought because of the loud tapping or ticking the cam sensor was making that it was my main problem.I will check the crank sensor as well.Does the crank sensor make a noise when bad???
