Cam sensor play?

How much should I be able to rotate the cam sensor ring ('gold thingie' under cap)?

The screw in the center is tight, but I can rock the gold ring a few degrees back and forth. I can hear a tapping noise further down when I rotate the ring...

I'm still investigating a rattle that only shows up @ 1700rpm with engine under load. (rattle is NOT present if engine is revved without load.)

If you can move the ring and the shaft is stationary there is a problem. Is the locating "pin" (the part that sticks down to index the ring) still there or loose? If so you may need a new cam sensor. Others may chime in on a fix. Jon Hanson
