took car out today was running great but started making a noise after i made a run the cam sensor gear is stripped and the gear that connect to it is stripped also what could have caused this and how much would it be to fix.

a new cam, cam button, distributor gear, oil filter, gaskets. depending where you get parts from. also drop the oil pan and get shavings out even in the pick up tube.

should be a weekend project

Hi,
That's a drag. I have never heard of this problem before. Misalignment or lubrication, too much sensor depth? You are probably looking at a minimum of $1200 for a good shop to replace the cam and sensor only.It would be a good project for a weekend, if you like doing your own stuff.Good luck!

Rock Auto . com has the Standard Motor Products PC16 cam sensor for about $50 - available again, the entire sensor not just the cap.

That should help a bit.

The cam and oil pan oil pick up R&R is not hard to do with engine in the car.

Any idea on what caused the failure in the first place?

Did you just set up the oil pump gears, or something. If you set the oil pump gears too tight, it could cause this cam gear/sensor gear wear.

Blown&Injected-

Thanks for the part number on the cam sensor, i just ordered a couple, hope i get the entire sensor!

Since you installed a new billet roller, how was the cam nose stack up?
Possible the stack up might have moved the cam gear in or out too far and the alignment with the cam sensor would have eaten in alive.

At last, 15 posts in........with all those mods, obvously something wasn't lined up. Don't know much about billet roller cams, but always hear a lot of horror stories connected to rollers.

THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF THEM.
