Howdy,

In the process of getting the new motor together, I have run into numerous issues with the 1007 Head gaskets. Long story short, I ditched those gaskets, and went with stock gaskets. The motor has about 20 - 30 seconds of run time on it.

It was decided to check everything back out in the car because of the water leaks, etc... with the 1007s. So the motor was disassembled. Upon teardown non-magnetic particles were discovered in the bottom of the oil pan. After the teardown was complete it was dicovered that these particles cam from the cam senor housing.

In looking at the drive gear on the cam sensor, it is obvious that the wear pattern has moved up higher on the gear than it was previously. Also, the washer which sits between the drive gear and the housing body is bent.

It is obvious that this was in a rather bad bind. The oil pump shaft to cam sensor shaft mating looks ok.

I was wondering if anyone had had problems of this nature before.

The Cover is a new replacement cover, and the camshaft is an ATR RP309G Hydraullic roller. The cam sensor is stock.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your gear wear issues are probably due to manufacturing tolerance differences in the two aftermarket pieces (Cam and front cover), one or both.

As for that washer, it's a spring washer, it's not supposed to be flat.

Thanks.

I figure that mfg tolerances might be part of it, but I was wondering if there was anything else to be aware of.

The issue with the washeer was that it had been driven into the bottom of the hosing that it had some grooves in it.

I wasn't sure if being forced into the housing bent it, or if the washer was that way by design.

The other part, as I stated was that the 4 "lugs" at the bottom of the housing were being worn off by the wahser, since it was in such a bind.

I knw this isn't right, I just wondered if anyone else had had the same problem
