What all negative effects can a severely worn cam sensor have on engine idle & performance? Mine's about to get replaced, but right now its at the point where when its cold, it makes a ticking noise when revved. Once the engine is warmed up, I cant really hear it, but I know its the culprit. (New motor, but lot of miles on the sensor)

Is the little electronic cam sensor tool that Kirban sells handy? I figure it makes it much faster to install.

Mine is a brand new cam sensor (GM) and it ticks when cold and quiets down when warm. Still trying to figure out the reason.

Matt,

I have one very good. Takes minutes to set with tool, well worth the $30.00:D :D

Ok, I'm going to get the tool.

Anyone else have problems with replacing the sensor with a new one and it still making that ticking sound?

Could the worn one be hurting my road / track performance? Just to get an idea of how it should run when I replace it. Or will I just have to find out?

Matt,

What i found was i had a rough idle once replaced and set properly engine with no doubt idled much better. Even if it is a question when you get about 80k and up on these things the roll pin can shear off when beating on it. Then (you do not run).:( :(

Well, reason I ask is, with the stock chip, the idle was horrible. Since I put in the Thrasher, it idles great.. very smooth. Although there is still a hint of low idle every now and then. After my 2nd (but very strong) pass at the track this past friday, as I turned onto the return road that goes up a bit of a hill, it stalled out on me. I fired it back up, and it died again. Finally I fired it again and gave it a little throttle for a second, and it was fine. Kinda figuring all that thrashing on a badly worn out cam sensor could be a problem. So its time to replace the bugger.

I know that ALL too well

Took out my freakin oil pump when that happened

Now my lifters chatter like a freakin sewing machine  I think they collapsed...replacing them tomorrow, if that doesn't stop the noise chances are an oil passage is block, which means the motor has to be pulled, which means this car goes bye bye...

Ouch. Good luck Tony.

I think I saw your car at Cecil this past Buick Day. I actually caught a picture of it launching next to an old green GS. A red GTA, with silverish color around the bottom, t-tops, ram air hood, ... that made a whistling noise? :D

Was that you?
